On May 26 2007 RCUI organised a fundraiser for Afghanistan. The event was a big success! Not only for the night itself, full of colour, nice people and interesting experiences, but most of all for contributing to the main goal of the night: raising money for a better educational environment for children in Afghanistan.

With the evening we managed to raise a total amount of 14.000 euro’s!

Even though this is something to be very happy with, there is more exciting news: while organising the fundraiser, Rotary Club Utrecht International contacted Cordaid (a Dutch organisation that globally aims to decrease inequality with strategic funding in four sectors, Participation, Emergency Aid and Reconstruction, Health and Well-being and Entrepreneurship) with the request of supporting the fundraiser. Recently we have received the news that Cordaid will contribute an extra 10.500 euro to our fundraiser amount, bringing the total to a staggering 24.500 euro!

The fundraiser amount will be made available to the Stichting Dutch hulp voor Afghaanse Achtergebleven Dorpen (DHVAAD). On the 10th of September director Mr. Faqiri will travel to Afghanistan to oversee the development of the first of three main projects in the village of Sarokie in the Parwan province. The projects consist of repairing the roof of a boys school, constructing a school for girls and a building a dam between villages.

It is the first project, the repairing of the roof of a boys school, where the fundraiser amount will be made available for. The amount of 13.000 Euro is reserved for the initial repairs, but with further funding it will also be possible to put windows in the school, to place a concrete floor and to provide shoes for all the students.

Ofcourse Mr Faqiri wants to keep us updated of the progress of the project, and will do so by providing us with photo’s and invoices of materials purchased. In our turn we will provide regular updates of the projects progress for you to monitor here on our website.
