Sharing a cross cultural experience with Houria Niati
This week we enjoy a presentation by Houria Niati, a London-based Algerian singer and artist who is visiting the Netherlands for the first time. She shared some of her music with us with on the back ground a slideshow of her arts: painting, photography and images. The songs Houria sing come from the classical Arab-Andalusia musical repertoire of the emigrants (Jews and Moors) from Spain to North Africa in the 14th century, where it was handed down by oral tradition. Nowadays it is performed and taught throughout Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. The performance of Houria was great and a typical example of ” Sharing a cross cultural experience”.
