Talk by Thomas Blekman on “Effectuation”

Effectuation is a set of decision-making principles that expert entrepreneurs are observed to employ in situations of uncertainty. The alternative to effectuation is causality, which describes decision-making heuristics rooted in prediction.

He will discuss two topics:-

1) How to deal with unpredictability in current times
2) What can managers learn from entrepreneurs or what is the link or the gap between entrepreneurship and corporate management.

Thomas Blekman is a lecturer on corporate effectuation and strategy at the Centre of Entrepreneurship at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. He is also Dean at Corsendonk College and partner at de Beukelaar Groep.

He studied commercial economics at the Hogeschool Utrecht and an M.Sc. on entrepreneurship at the Erasmus University. He has written a book on “Corporate Effectuation”: http://www.managementboek.nl/boek/9789052618968/corporate_effectuation_engels-thomas_blekman.

Both English and Dutch versions are available, and the book has been nominated by Managementboek.nl for the Book of the Year prize.
