Tell us a little bit about yourself
My first international trip began in my Hakka mother’s womb, from Taipei via Hong Kong to Brunei, where I was born some months later, in a British hospital, under the supervision of an Indian doctor and Malay nurse. When I asked my Shanghainese if they might have brought the wrong daughter home (because I didn’t look like either parent), he replied that I was the only Chinese baby in the ward. After moving 12 times in my life, including studying and working in three continents, I decided to title my second chamber opera “Culture Shock!” which received its premiere in June 2008. My first was called “Jetsetter.” I am currently focussed on getting my piano guitar duo to travel more extensively.
Why did you decide to join Rotary?
I have always been curious about the Rotary Club and was very surprised and honoured to be invited to attend a few sessions. I liked the people immediately. It’s a place where I can have conversations about anything, and not just superficially either. I look forward to these fortnightly Tuesday evenings.
Are you active in any committees?
Not yet. I think I’m too new.
Do you have any hobbies?
Music used to be my hobby and passion until it became professional. I am doing a lot of aerobics, yoga, and zumba to deserve my teenage nickname of “Dancing Queen.”
