Uganda Project
From 2nd July to 24th August 2004, we had an exhibition in the Utrecht Town Hall. The title of the exhibition was “Ik zie, ik zie wat jij niet ziet” The literal translation is “I see, I see what you do not see” It is in fact a childrens’ game, known in English as “I spy, I spy with my little eye”.
The subtitle of the exhibition was “A non-Dutch view on Dutch habits”. One aim of the exhibition was to collect money. A suggestion was made that we could send money to an opthalmic surgeon in Uganda who operates on patients with cataracts so that they can see again.
The surgeon is Dr. Edward Nkurunziza who works at the Fort Portal Referral Hospital. The last time we sent him money was in July 2006. We sent him Euro 600 and with this he carried out a three day surgery camp in the Kyenjojo district of Uganda. He did 42 cataract and 2 glaucoma operations. In addition he treated 122 other cases of various eye diseases.
