In October 2019, Rotary Club Utrecht International collaborated with the Rotary Club of Rohilkhand Bareilly in India  to build a toilet block and hand washing station for girls at Laxmi Narain Junior High School.

Accessibility to toilets and sanitation is a struggle in some areas of India, which causes girls to drop out of school when they hit puberty. The installation of a simple toilet block with hand basins encourages girls to continue attending school and complete their education.

RCUI slightly exceeded the contribution goal by 50 € and collected 2550 € for the project. To raise the amount, the members organised a gin & wine tasting event, Amsterdam Light Festival Boat trip, and a Mexican cooking workshop.

In June 2019, the construction started and by early 2020, the toilet block and handwashing station was completed. Read the blog post here.
