Dear friends,

It is both an honor and a privilege to step into the role of President of our Rotary International
Club for the year 2025–2026. As I reflect on our journey together, I am reminded of the
resilience, fellowship, and commitment that make Rotary not just an organization, but a
family.

When I first joined the club, it was during the most difficult of times—the COVID-19
pandemic. Our meetings were held online, morale was low, and many of our members drifted
away. The vibrancy of our club seemed dimmed, and the sense of connection that is the
heart of Rotary felt distant. But from that very moment, I understood the value of fellowship
and the strength that comes from staying connected, even in adversity.

In the years that followed, our focus was on rebuilding. We worked to make the club
sustainable again—financially and socially. Recruitment was a priority, and together we put
in a tremendous effort to restore our membership base. Slowly, the club began to grow
stronger. Then came a year of major projects: we celebrated our 20th anniversary with a
memorable Lustrum, and we organized a large fundraising event that showcased not only our
ambition but also the energy and creativity of our members.

Looking back, I see three clear stages: survival, rebuilding, and celebration. Now, as we enter
this new Rotary year, I believe it is time to take a step that is both reflective and forward-
looking. That is why I have chosen the motto for my presidency:

“Rooted in Fellowship – Rooted Locally, Serving Globally.”

This motto reflects my belief that strong bonds within our club will inspire us to do more,
achieve more, and serve more effectively. Fellowship is not just about friendship—it is about
creating trust, motivation, and a shared sense of purpose. By deepening our connections with
one another and with the clubs in Utrecht and across the Netherlands, we will grow stronger
together and extend our impact globally.

Our goals for the year ahead are clear:

  • Bonding and Fellowship: Strengthen relationships within the club members, building
a more cohesive and supportive community.
  • Identity and Belonging: Help members find their place in the club, improve
onboarding, and create a stronger sense of shared identity.
  • Local Service: Focus on short-term, visible projects in our community, reminding
ourselves that change begins at home.
  • Global Vision: Develop long-term initiatives that grow with us, connecting our local
    roots to global service.
  • Collaboration: Foster a collaborative spirit within committees, across the other
Rotary Utrecht clubs, and international clubs across the Netherlands. This includes
adopting structured approaches and defining clear procedures to ensure continuity and
    reduce turnover.

I believe this year will be about reflection and renewal. By investing in fellowship, we will
not only serve our communities more effectively but also strengthen the very foundations of
Rotary for years to come.

Let us make 2025–2026 a year where we grow closer, serve with purpose, and stand rooted in
fellowship—locally and globally.
