Our club has been awarded a Global Grant of $ 40,000 by The Rotary Foundation to build a well to supply the Safehouse being built by The Beyond Innocence Foundation (BIF) for abused children in Landi, Taita Tevata, Kenya, and its surrounding community with a reliable — and for the community an affordable — source of clean water.

This well will not only supply drinking water, but will also allow the children and their caretakers to grow their own vegetables and become more self-sufficient. By involving the local community, who will be asked to pay a token amount for water, it will provide the means of keeping the well properly maintained and working.

This will benefit about 50 children and their caretakers in the Safehouse and about 500 people in the Landi community. Landi is located in the Taita-Taveta County between the towns of Mwatate, the capital of the province, and Voi, where the local Rotary Club in this project is chartered. It lies approximately 200 km north-west of Mombasa and 360 km south-east of Nairobi.

This project grew out of a meeting of 11 European International Rotary Clubs organised by the Rotary Club Berlin International in April 2016. It was selected as the best project out of all the projects submitted. Rotary is a worldwide service organisation with more than one million members. By joining a local club, you are joining that international network.

We gratefully acknowledge the financial support and assistance of the following international Rotary clubs:-
